Brandon Garson

Mission Statement:

 

The mission of the Brandon Garson Memorial Fund is to promote the confidence and learning abilities of high-poverty elementary and secondary school age children in the Miami Beach area by funding programs that provide additional assistance in learning to read.

 

The Fund will award annual grant(s) to programs in the Miami Beach area to support curriculum and enrichment programs for children who have difficulty reading and need extra help in order to succeed in life. Programs eligible for grants from the Fund must benefit children from low-income families. Programs will use the grant to promote a zeal for learning and the higher achievement of children through core curriculum, extra-curricular and other special programming. The grant must be used for the ultimate and immediate benefit of children from low-income families in their reading skills development. Programs eligible for the grant may be offered through schools, school-sponsored programs or community-sponsored programs.

 

Brandon was a member of the Miami Beach community. Brandon was passionate about learning; he welcomed every opportunity to learn, whether it was at school or through life. He was also a kite-surfer who loved Miami’s beaches and life.  Programs receiving grants from the Fund seek to instill a similar sense of enthusiasm for learning and the confidence to pursue one's passions in all things.

The Brandon Garson Memorial Fund  -pays the Dade Community Foundation 2% of the average annual assets for administration, program selection/review/monitoring and investment management and will give up to 5% away annually to programs meeting the criteria set forth below in the mission statement.
