I thought that all my emotions surrounding the loss of Brandon have been drained from me over the past week, but I realize that is probably not the case, so it may be difficult for me to get through this. I’ll be brief since there are a lot of people who want to talk about him.
I’ve been thinking about him this past week, trying to remember experiences we shared in the short time I knew him, and in listening to the eulogies and talking about him with his family and friends on Friday, I found the one word I was looking for: passion. Brandon just had a passion for everything he did. I got to see it at our LNR roundtables. I was also able to experience it at the unfortunately few poker games I was able to attend at his place, games where a forty-something like me mingled with people twenty years my junior, all of us having a great time, and all under the careful choreography of Brandon. And after speaking with his family and friends, I also see that he had passion for virtually everything he did, whether kiteboarding, Duke basketball or just being around the people he cared for. And for someone so young to be that passionate about life and work and all the things around him is quite impressive and to me, that is what will make his memory indelible in my mind. And it is why I think that each of us who knew him will never forget him. We’ll all have our own images of Brandon and he will enter our memories at different times. For me, it will be at every LNR roundtable, particularly when an Ohio asset is discussed. He will truly be missed.
